Ahmedabad is located in Gujarat. Five km from the center
is the Sabarmati Ashram, formerly Gandhi's headquarters, during the struggle
for Indian independence. From here, Gandhi set out on his famous Salt
March to the Gulf of Cambay to protest the salt tax . A pictorial record
of his life as well as a library containing the war letter sent to Hitler
July 23, 1939 asking him to pull back, are found in the museum on the
grounds. The Ashram is still used for under-priviledge children to have
a place to go.
The Calico Museum of Textiles, part of the Sarabhai Foundation contains
an extensive collection of antique and modern Indian textile, a must see
if you are interested in textiles.
