We visited Monday morning, June 23, and found our host to be superbly versed in all aspects of the place and of the history of the times. Thanks to the staff and to North Carolina for the worthy efforts of preserving one of the most important historic sites in the South.

The state of North Carolina has reduced the number of hours the site is open to the public. Inexplicably, it chose to cut out Saturdays instead of a week day. (Is this to convenience government bureaucrats rather than the tax-paying public?) I came from California and my friend came from Tennessee to visit the state's Civil War sites and were quite disappointed to be unable to fully tour the Bennett Place museum and buildings on Saturday, July 6. The day before we had wonderful visits to Fort Fisher, Averasboro, and Bentonville. Please ask the state to reconsider its policy so others are not inconvenienced.
