I am very proud to have had the oppportunity to be a part of a university with such a rich educational heritage. I too am glad, the administration had the vision to create a program aimed at the needs of the non-traditional student in the community. I ATTENDED SHAW BETWEEN 67-71. I FOUND THE EXPERINCE VERY REWARDING EVEN LIVING IN TRAILERS AND GOING AROUND THE CIAA DURING THE BASKETBALL AND TRACK SEASON. I WAS VISTA PROGRAM IN 1970. DURING THAT TIME. SERVICING THE WASHINGTON D.C. COMMUNITY (. I KNOW MANY OF YOU DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS PROGRAM) AND STILL GETTING A FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION THRU SHAW. I NEVER GRADUTATION FOR SHAW. I'm so pleased to read from so many of you about your positive experiences you had at Shaw. I have a rather special place in my heart for Shaw. Even though I never attended school there. My reasoning you ask? My great-great grandfather Henry Martin Tupper founded the school. Presently, I am working on transcribing his letters he sent home during the Civil War. It is a fascinating collection detailing his life as a soldier. It would make him very proud to know so many fine men and women have benefited from the education they received from Shaw. Lead on! I did not graduate from Shaw University, but I attended during the years of 68-70 and I pledged AKA during while attending school. I am from Rocky Mount, NC and whenever I am in the area, I drive by the campus to see the changes. I currently reside in Newport News, VA and I am employed at Fort Eustis an Army base. While I did not graduate from Shaw I still consider myself to be a BEAR. I have a daughter that is contemplating attending Shaw next fall (depending on the financial aid that she receives). I completed my undergraduate work at St. Leo College received my MBA from Florida Institute of Technology and I am currently working on another masters from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Shaw University gave me the foundation and the fortitude to finish and further my education. Thank you Shaw.
